About Elaine

Formal Education and training
I have a Masters degree in  Marriage and Family Therapy from Portland
State University and am working toward licensure as a registered intern.
My undergraduate degree is in Psychology also from Portland State
University.  I am a Board Eligible National Certified Counselor (NCC) and
an associate member of the American  Association for Marriage and
Family Therapy.

What is a Registered Intern?
Registered interns have graduated from an approved program for
counseling and have received the required experience necessary to
practice.  They are working on the additional supervised hours required
to become licensed. At this time, in the state of Oregon, it is not required
for counselors to be licensed.  A registered intern is someone who is
seeking additional professional development while working toward
licensure. All interns are supervised by licensed professionals that
promote professional development, assist  in acquiring and refining
skills and encourage responsible provision of services.   Some benefits
to seeing a Registered Intern is they are newly educated in current
thinking and research, they are excited  and energized about their
profession and focused on developing themselves as a professional.
Their work is supervised by very experienced professionals to ensure
clients get excellent service.  Generally their fees are much more
affordable.

On the personal side
My interactions with clients are enriched by my therapeutic training and
life  experience.  I have four grown children which are all at different
stages of leaving the nest and a wonderful husband of 27 years.  I have
lived on both sides of the United States including Maine and California. I
have experienced many of life’s joys and difficulties and feel my life
experience is an asset that proves invaluable in my counseling
practice..
